A default Big Brother configuration was created during the installation process. You will want to add to and modify the Big Brother configuration files to make them correct for your installation. There are three main areas to configure. Click the links below for more information on each area:
The definitions of the Big Brother server(s) and the hosts they monitor. You do this in the <BBSERVER>/etc/bb-hosts file. Some tests also require you to install and configure the Big Brother client on the machine being monitored.
Big Brother options, such as directory locations, timing options, network testing options, and more. These are in the <BBSERVER>/etc/bbdef... files.
Setting up notification options and recipients. You do this in the <BBSERVER>/etc/bbwarnsetup.cfg and <BBSERVER>/etc/bbwarnrules.cfg files. If you use SNMP traps for notifications, you must also add information to <BBSERVER>\etc\bbwarnsnmp.cfg.
You can edit any of Big Brother's configuration files using a standard text editor. Changes to a bbdef... file or changes to server definitions in bb-hosts will not take effect until you stop and restart the Big Brother server.
Once you have Big Brother working the way you want it to, you can also:
Modify the appearance of the Big Brother display.
Edit the <BBSERVER>/etc/security.cfg file. This file enables you to tell Big Brother to accept status logs only from the defined set of hosts. By default Big Brother accepts connections from any host.
Note. For information on using Big Brother server on Windows, please see the online help provided with the Windows server. For information on configuring the Big Brother Windows Client, please see the online help provided with the client software.
