We recommend you use only one Big Brother server of each type--BBDISPLAY, BBNET, and BBPAGER--until you are comfortable working with Big Brother's configuration files. However, you can define as many servers of each type as you feel are needed for your installation.
Defining multiple BBDISPLAY servers lets you access the Big Brother display page by connecting to either server. You can have the two (or more) servers display information for the same hosts, entirely different hosts, or an overlapping set of hosts. Just remember that any host which runs the Big Brother client must have all the BBDISPLAY servers it is supposed to send information to defined. If you want to have the same information available on two or more BBDISPLAY servers, you may be able to accomplish the same thing using BBRELAY directives.
Using multiple BBNET hosts you can test out network services from multiple locations. The results of the test from each location will be merged to create a single status log. To use this feature, each BBNET will need to be defined with a location tag. You can learn more about this feature in the "Specifying a location tag".
Finally, you can use multiple BBPAGER hosts to distribute the sending of notification messages. If you do this, be aware that each BBPAGER server is independent and does not know what notifications any other server is sending. This may result in administrators getting multiple notifications for the same problem, from different BBPAGER servers. This can be avoided if you are careful when setting up the bb-hosts and bbwarnrules.cfg files on the different servers.
